BAY BEA
How Bay Bea came into our lives.
On August 14th Don and Tess joined us for a Sunset Sail out on Utah Lake. During our discussion of what kind of boats they have been looking at, they quizzed us if we had seen the “50 footer” for sale on KSL.Com. My comment was, a boat like that was way out of our league, but when I got home on the computer, curiosity got the better of me. Wow! What was a SORC ocean racing yacht doing in Logan? The intrigue of this boat kept me sleepless as I tried to fill in the blanks of who, what, why and where. After finally giving in to the relentless pressure of answering those questions, I decided to phone the owner… just to answer a few of those questions. There was no way to purchase the boat now, or store it, or sail it, or repair it, or transport it or . . . . . anything.
After a pleasant conversation with Dale, who had purchased the boat in Astoria, Oregon and transported it to north Logan, we began to discover certain parallel thought processes and a great deal of “commonality”. Before the end of the conversation, I had committed to viewing the boat as soon as possible and we have been on a fast track ever since.
This is Bay Bea being craned onto a truck for its move to Utah Lake State Park after being generously donated to our sailing school. Bay Bea will be part of our non-profit and will be restored to her racing glory with the help of at-risk youth.
